About the job:

You will be the first full-time Data Analyst to join our new Data Analytics and AI team, which sits within the wider Innovation Function.You will have the opportunity to have a considerable influence over the direction of data analytics workstreams and strategy, with plenty of room to innovate and define best practice. Working alongside our Data Scientists and Engineers, you will play a crucial role in delivering data led insight into the business and become a key conduit for the business to interact with the data team.

Day to day, you will be working with colleagues from across the Home Bargains group to help them access the data and insights that they need to make critical tactical and strategic decisions. Your role will have a huge impact on our drive to put data at the heart of our strategy.

Core Responsibilities:

Business understanding

  • As a Data Analyst, you will have an excellent understanding of our core business processes and particularly, the data that they create. You will be the go-to person within the organization to help colleagues get the information they need

    Provision and management of business reports

    • Work with your colleagues from across the business to help define, create and manage a range of business reporting and insight products
    • Proactively manage existing reports to identify improvements and fix any issues as they arise
    • Use your business process understanding to sense-check reports and compare across data sources to ensure quality and consistency of the reports you produce
    • Communicate clearly to business stakeholders on any known risks/limitations of the data provided
    • Manage and communicate business demand clearly to key stakeholders to assist with planning and prioritization

    Data Visualisation

    • Where appropriate, work with the Data Science and Engineering teams to visualize key data and metrics within interactive and static dashboards
    • Work with colleagues to collect and refine data visualization requirements and ensure that any dashboard development is aligned to user’s needs
    • Work with colleagues to help them maximise the value from the dashboards you produce

    Supporting the work of the wider innovation function

    • Use your knowledge to assist in the design and implementation of wider innovation projects
    • Assist innovation project teams to source the business data that they need, both for development and testing of new innovations
    • Help relay the needs of the business to the Data Science and Engineering teams to ensure that the data team is always aligned around business need
    • Work with the Data Science and Engineering teams to derive data insights and inform decision making

    We are looking for someone who has:

    • A good understanding of retail-orientated business processes and systems
    • Strong analytical skills with a methodical approach to problem-solving
    • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proficiency in SQL and MS Excel
    • Proficiency in one or more data visualisation tools (preferably Tableau)
    • A basic understanding of data warehousing, ETL techniques and data challenges
    • The ability to identify and prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines
    • Effective communication of progress, timelines, limitations and risks

    We would love to hear from you if you have any of the following:

    • Some experience of Python or other data engineering programming languages
    • Previous experience working in a data team
    • Knowledge of machine learning
